WE KEEP THE LIGHTS ON.

Triton Power is a private independent power generating company with a capacity of 1.35GW.

We provide power to the UK wholesale electricity market through our UK power stations, playing an important role in security of supply when renewable generation does not deliver. Our combined output is sufficient to provide electricity for up to half a million homes in the UK.

We support the National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) in managing the stability of the electricity system by proving inertia through a six year synchronous compensation contract, a world first approach which uses less energy and reduces carbon emissions – a significant first step towards a zero-carbon electricity system.

We pride ourselves on safe, reliable and efficient operations, meeting all our obligations safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.

Zero Carbon Humber

Triton Power is part of the H2H (Hydrogen to Humber) decarbonisation project which in March 2021 won joint funding through ISCF (Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund) from Innovate UK to carry out FEED studies to convert the Saltend CHP to burn a 30% blend of Blue Hydrogen. Blue Hydrogen is hydrogen obtained through reforming natural gas with the CO2 captured and stored in subsea caverns.

H2H is the anchor project to the broader Zero Carbon Humber initiative and will kick start a hydrogen economy which will be a significant enabler for Net Zero ambitions, decarbonising heavy industry and well as transport and heating in the region.

OUR ASSETS

Triton Power currently runs three power generation assets across the UK:

SUPPORTING THE PATHWAY to net zero

Triton Power supports the UK Government’s goals to reduce carbon emissions by 78% by 2035.

The UK power sector has made great strides in lowering its carbon footprint through development of Wind and Solar PV. These technology types provide intermittent generation and there remains a requirement for reliable, flexible, gas fired generation to ensure the lights stay on during this transition to net zero emissions.

Triton Power, through its Hydrogen to Humber (H2H) partnership, will provide this security with reduced emissions by converting its natural gas fired CHP station at Saltend to burn hydrogen, initially as a 30% blend until there is a functioning hydrogen economy which will enable a 100% hydrogen conversion.

The H2H partnership is an essential anchor project to kick start the UK hydrogen economy, facilitating the infrastructure build for hydrogen production and CCUS, which can then connect to other industry and power stations within the Zero Carbon Humber initiative to significantly reduce UK carbon emissions.
